DIY ~ More Cookware cleaning at home (with lids)

Adding on to this future tip:

https://optimise-performance.blogspot.com/2019/07/diy-cookware-bakeware-cleaning.html

If you use lids for the cleaning the cookware on your stove (and the lids don't have to fit exactly) they heat up very, very fast!

Also adding:

Stainless Steel + A Lid that Approximately Fits = Very Hot & Energy Efficient Cleaning!

DIY Cookware (& Bakeware) Cleaning

From the realm of business Cleaning we can pick up:
  • Sugar Soap (Soap Concentrate)
  • Degreaser
to clean your Frying Pans, Saucepans etc ...!

Dish washing liquid is designed for cutlery, crockery etc ... which are in immediate contact with food.
You need to use too much of it and not strong enough to clean Cookware properly!

Multi-purpose cleaner and dish washing liquid are now about the same price so no reason to NOT purchase a quantity of Spray and Wipe to clean those pesky pots and pans.

You would generally do a final wash with dish washing liquid anyway just to remove the last bits of soap.

You could also purchase Soap Concentrate just for cleaning Pots & Pans.

These items will also help:
  • Disposable Gloves (so you can use hot water)
  • Microfibre Cloths
No need then to invest in expensive Ceramic Cookware - you may be able to survive with
Non-stick and Stainless steel!

And if you really want to get energy efficient Cookware - Copper!

No need to leave your cookware soaking days and days and days - which probably doesn't do that much anyway!

---

Don't forget you can turn on your stove to heat up the water for cleaning - no point to add an extra step to fill the kettle, boil it and then empty it into the pan ~

You can get sufficient quantity of water that's suitable for a business as well by heating the water on the stove.

These tips are also applicable to cleaning Microwaves.

---

You will also reduce the quantity & quality of dish washing liquid you use potentially being able to use the cheaper brands,
and by having less water the sponges and cloths you use with dish washing liquid you can reduce that sour smell - your everyday cloths can then spend more time in the sun getting rid of their smell!

Glad-Wrap tips

I might add to this:

https://food-hacks.wonderhowto.com/how-to/tame-unruly-cling-wrap-with-these-plastic-whispering-tips-0170424/

  1. Pull the glad wrap tight so you use tension to cut the glad wrap
  2. Give it a bit of extra glad wrap length if you have any issues e.g. haven't done much glad wrapping before, cutting in a cramped position etc ...

So no more letting the glad wrap get the better of you when you're covering your food!

DIY - Applying the Project Management Triangle from Restaurants & Cafes to Cooking @ Home

Before the Internet everyone cooked a set menu (including restaurants and cafes).

Amongst the advantages of this is mastery of the Project Management Triangle;speed, quality and cost:

    1. It didn't take too long
    2. You didn't run the risk of making a mess and producing inedible food!
    3. You didn't use up or waste excessive amounts of ingredients
If you have just read something off the Internet and want to give it a try - give yourself a bit of room to move in terms of extra time, more ingredients etc ... when you first try it out

Even in the 21st Century you'll notice that restaurants and cafe's hardly change their menus, they're could be a number of reasons for this ... but anyway!

For example when making sandwiches and wraps I found out these great tips to make great sandwiches (& wraps) :

  • You needed to try and push or pull extra 'hard' to get rid of ALL the air out from the sandwich or wrap
  • You need to really make sure you keep wet and dry separate i.e. most importantly bread from wet fillings

DIY - Speedy Can Opening tips

Speedy and quality can opening is essential for busy people trying to make food on the go!

This is summarised from YouTube videos:

  1. If you are having trouble lift the can off your bench and / or angle the can opener ~ the can opener does not necessarily sit at right angles to the can / bench ...
  2. Well before you start cutting have a look at which ways the:
    1. Cutting wheels rotate
    2. And subsequently which way the opener is going to roll around the top of the can

Kitchen Appliances with Rechargeable Batteries

Adding to

https://optimise-performance.blogspot.com/2020/06/minimisation-of-kitchen-clutter.html

Manufacturers do not make enough of these but I think they really assist with organsiation especially when you can charge them somewhere else other than the kitchen:

  1. Freeing up sparse electrical outlets which in a kitchen can cross over water, hot stuff etc...
  2. Not having to be inconvenienced with cords!

Not to mention - you always need to be careful when cleaning appliances as water and electrical circuits don't mix!

Tips from Commercial Hospitality for Cooking at Home

If you strive to improve the quality and reduce the time of your cooking when you are working F / T here's a few tips:

  1. Using the disposable plastic kitchen gloves will help you cut, help you pick up hot stuff etc ...
  2. Using plastic gloves helps you move around faster!
  3. If you learn to hone a knife [Google Search of Honing a Knife] will probably help
  4. Learning to clean your oven and stove helps - your cooking will be impaired if you are afraid of dirtying them!
  5. Try and use yours hands to tear open packets, only use a knife (or even worse, scissors) when you have to - this saves time in the kitchen
  6. On that same not try and minimise the amount of time you move around, change utensils etc ...
  7. A good kitchen has ample storage space and it pays to invest in bowls, utensils etc ... which are well used ~ good food doesn't just appear from nowhere if your kitchen is empty and sparkling clean your food is probably not that good!
  8. You will need to have the odd utensils e.g. spoons, tea spoons, bowls handy for intermediate goals as you can see any good chef will have a bit of cleaning up to do at the end!
  9. You can try getting a cheap apron - so you don't have to worry about staining your clothes - chef's shirts and aprons are all designed to be easy to take out stains unlike regular clothes.
