DIY Utilising your Wall Space in the 21st Century ~ it doesn't matter if you are an Office Worker!

In the 21st Century - lets try and get to the situation where the wall doesn't dictate to you what you can and can't do with it - you need to try to be the one who sets the usage of your own wall

Be it for:
  1. Bathroom Shelves
  2. Kitchen Hooks
  3. Built - in Shelves
  4. Built - in Desks
  5. Wall Mounted TVs
  6. Wall Mounted Monitors
  7. Hooks for Hanging Clothes
  8. Picture Frames
  9. Digital Photo Frames
  10. Key Hooks which could be installed using glue
  11. Speakers
  12. Painting Designs onto your Wall
  13. etc ...
Getting in touch with a handyman off Gumtree would help (not a commercial trades person) to assist you with:
  • Painting
  • Drilling
  • etc ...
So get those muscles working especially if you sit around in an office all day!

Tips for DIY installing Glue Hooks

Hooks on the back of your wall are great for hanging clothes etc ...

Hooks, brackets and shelves are very inexpensive and are also handy in the kitchen & bathroom!

If you haven't mastered drilling yet - here's a few tips for self-installing the Command glue hooks available from the supermarket.

  1. Use mentholated spirits to do an initial clean before using your higher grade https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isopropyl_alcohol - make sure your metho is dry
  2. Use the spirit level on your Smartphone to draw a level line to aim the hook if you want to
  3. Before you peel off the backing and expose the glue practise sitting the hook on the wall with both hands
  4. Wear a pair of plastic gloves so you can wriggle your hook into the desired position if necessary

---

Don't forget a hair dryer + extension, chord heat gun can remove the glue hooks if you no longer need them, put them in the wrong position etc ...

Cleaning alcohols can clean up the rest of the glue ~

High grade Isopropyl alcohol has a number of uses including preparing and cleaning the surface for hooks and wiping down the glass for all your devices as described in my other post!

Using cord twisting and rolling for Computer Cables

Whilst these sorts of techniques are for very long cords and ropes - these can be applied to
HDMI cords, USB cords, etc ... and can tidy up your computer set up especially if you cords are a bit long and minimise the need for cable ties.

It's also a handy thing to understand when you're at the petrol station pumping up tires so you don't damage the hose so the next person can't use it!

DIY ~ Household Cleaning Tips

From the world of Cleaning resellers:

To speed up your rubbish bin emptying:
  • Don't be afraid to knock the bin around and make some noise (if it's not broken)
  • Know how to vacuum or mop up any spills or possible mess when you empty
  • It's garbage anyway so no need to over clean the bin when you put the new bag on
  • Throw smaller rubbish containers into bigger rubbish containers

As far as cleaning chemicals are concerned:
  • To a large degree chemicals are fairly interchangeable and have similar 'brute force' cleaning power - multi-purpose cleaners, cream cleansers, alcohol based disinfectants, floor cleaners, toilet ducks, bleaches etc ... even potentially carpet cleaner ...
  • Some of these manufacturers tend to be a bit marketing heavy! ~ if you use a sufficient quantity they all tend to perform fairly similar - something you want to keep in mind if you want to minimise the footprint of your cleaning containers etc ...
  • Generic brands are fine if you have proper cloths and mops, gloves (PPE) and know how to use them!
  • Cleaning brands are more about taking the 'hard' edge of raw sugar soap and bleach products!
  • Chemical manufactures are very clever and have harnessed economies of scale since our parents and grandparents were around - something you may want to exploit in terms of what chemicals you buy for your own domestic cleaning!
  • If you decide to snap the oven racks out for cleaning - a pair of plastic gloves will help to reduce impact on your hands.
